Let that be Enough

I was happily sitting on my green leaf
with the sun above me shining.
Then gloomy dark clouds came suddenly
and it started raining.

It was so dark and cold.
Indeed, it was frightening.
I tried to find a shade to rest
for I was wet with water and dripping.

I finally found a cozy spot
where I can stay until the rain stops pouring.
But from the behind the shadows caught my attention--
Something was glowing.

I came closer to see what it was--
Unsure of what I am doing.
When suddenly it glowed some more
So gentle, and warm, and calming.

"Hello there" came a voice to me
and I looked around.
To my surprise it was a firefly
laying on the ground.

"Are you okay?" I asked him
he answered "Better than before."
I wondered what he meant.
I wanted to know more.

"I've seen you all around in that tiny leaf of yours" he said.
"And you grow prettier everyday."
I bowed my head and looked away
for I did not know what to say.

Finally, I got the courage to speak
what is on my mind.
For the moment of silence was deafening
and I had been keeping this to my self all the time.

"I have seen you too a couple of times,
and your smile had brighten my days.
I had always wished I could talk to you,
I had always wished you could stay."

My tiny heart was pounding in my chest
I could not believe what I have spoken.
He came closer to me and whispered words I would never forget--
And then he glowed brighter that moment.

The rain finally came to a stop
and the sun started to shine once more.
But when I tried to open my eyes
I was in a different place than I was before.

I looked around to see
where my friend went.
But he was not anywhere
And I was all alone once again.

I closed my eyes and decided to just take rest
and stop these tears from falling.
I made a wish in my heart with a dandelion on my hand
that when I wake up, he would be there waiting.

Seasons came and went.
Blue skies turned gray.
Then the sun-kissed morning touched my skin
and it bid me to welcome the new day.

I stepped out from my tiny bed
and much to my surprise.
He was there standing
right before my eyes.

"How are you doing?" he asked me.
"Better than before." I answered.
I came closer to him and whispered the words that I could never forget--
A butterfly and firefly in love is enough said.

10 Things I Learned in Hawaii and in BYUH: My Junior Year (part 3)

2. Red Carpet kapag Sunday.

3. Internet/WiFi is life! Imagine life without the 24/7 connection? (or you can imagine life in the Philippines.

7. Hindi ka nga nagpupunta sa mall. Namimili ka naman online.

8. Sana ibalik ang freebie bin. I started from scratch and that bin was like a treasure chest.

10 Things I Learned in Hawaii and in BYUH: My Sophomore Year (part 2)

2. Lahat ng daanan sa school has the same distance from a certain reference point (ex. entering through the side doors compared to entering in the main hallway in the dorms). Dumedepende na lamang sa bilis ng lakad.

3. May tatlong standard na luto ang itlog tuwing agahan: medium, over easy, and scrambled.

4. Pwedeng mag-transform ang sausage into patty. Pwede rin yung patty sa sausage. Gulat nga ako nung naging soup eh.

10 Things I Learned in Hawaii and in BYUH: My Freshman Year (part 1)

1. Ang Hawaii ay parang Pilipinas lang. When you are in Waikiki and miss home, just think of Makati.

10. Ipinagpalit ko ang Friendster sa Facebook.
